Our lives are filled with the news of grand events both good and bad. We note, as important, events and accomplishments that gather the attention of the masses both good and bad. As Christians, we serve a good God, and we are in the business of doing what is good. However, sometimes, we place our own thoughts and ways upon God as if they were His own. We decide God holds as important what we hold as important. We decide God is impressed with or pleased with what impresses or pleases us. In fact, God’s people have from ancient times struggled to understand what pleases God. Micah brought ancient Israel a simple message to remind them that the grandness of their seeming successes and the extravagance of their ceremonies were not what God required, nor was He pleased with them. Instead, he told them the way they treated one another and the attitude of their heart was what God looked for in their lives.

6     With what shall I come before the Lord

and bow down before the exalted God?

Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,

with calves a year old?

7     Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,

with ten thousand rivers of oil?

Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,

the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8     He has showed you, O man, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God (Mic 6:6-8 NIV).

May God bless us with a faith in Jesus Christ that fills our lives with day-to-day activities of justice, mercy, and humility.

Peace,

Jay Don
