Tressie Lucas, 97, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in a local hospital.

Tressie was born December 29, 1918 in Comanche, Texas to Thomas and Rilla (Whitaker) Marshall. She graduated as valedictorian from Noodle High School in 1937 then married Newell Lucas October 1, 1938 in Merkel. He preceded her in death June 4, 1967. Tressie worked at Merkel Drug, Caldwell Music, and Abilene State School. She taught many children to play the piano. Tressie was Volunteer of the Year for Merkel Schools, reading books to many children. She was a member of the Merkel Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts.

Survivors include son, Billy Lucas and wife Sarah of Merkel; daughters, Shirlene Evans and husband Jimmy of Granbury, Christie Barnett and husband Finley of Merkel; six grandchildren, Melinda and Carroll Mabile, Craig and Jan Bowen, Russell and Rosie Lucas, Michelle and Lane Petty, Teresa and Joel Owens, Mandy and Wade Toombs; seventeen great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vickie Lucas and a host of nieces and nephews including, Jeanette Pursley and husband Philip of Merkel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters.
