Is Love Really All We Need?

Do you feel unloved? Many people do not feel loved, or they fear not being loved enough. Perhaps, most of us feel unloved at different times. It is never a pleasant feeling, and sometimes it can be down right discouraging or depressing. It seems to be within the nature of humanity to want to be loved by someone.

The Beatles used to sing a song that said: All we need is love. Love, love is all we need. I have no idea if they even understood what love really is. The word is used to describe so many things in our culture. Regardless if they understood the love of God, or not, the sentiment must have resonated with the masses, because the song was popular for quite sometime.  Is love really all we need?

No, evidently, we need the forgiveness that only love can afford us. For God so loved that He gave His only Son . . . (John 3:16). God gave His only Son so that we might have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Eph 1:7), and He did this because of His great love for us! What we need as sinners is forgiveness, and it is the love of God that affords us forgiveness in the blood of Christ.  The Bible says: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love . . . And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him (1 Jn 4:8, 16). God’s own love is demonstrated for us in this that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Rom 5:8). So, love and forgiveness are basically bound up together, at least for sinners like us, and we are to live our lives out of this love of God that we know. God bless us with what we need, that is to know you and so your love.  What about love? We definitely do need it! Read it (2 Cor 1:13; Eph 3:4), Hear it (Luke 8:18; Rom 10:17), and Live it (Heb 11:6)!

Peace,

Jay Don
