We sing the song, “Take Time to Be Holy,” but often it seems that we think holiness takes more time and effort than we can literally afford to give. I know, we are B-U-S-Y with all of the things this life requires of us, but I think we can learn a lesson from one of our society’s greatest successes – Advertising.
Advertising is a multi-billion dollar business in our country alone. Advertising works because it only takes a moment of time to bring about thoughts that can lead to actions far beyond that single moment. People will spend tens of thousands of dollars and labor for years to accomplish something that only took a moment to put into their mind.
It is a scheme of the devil (Eph 6:11) to tell us we do not have to time to be holy! God’s promises are powerful to save and transform us (2 Peter 1:3–4; 2 Cor 3:18). What we have to do is A-D-V-E-R-T-I-S-E for God and His promises in our own minds. This world and its desires will N-E-V-E-R advertise for God. However, if we will find ways to plant God’s thoughts in our minds, then our thoughts will become like His thoughts, and He will be with us in this battle to become holy just as He is holy (1 Peter 1:14–16). It only takes a moment to consider one of God’s promises to us in Christ Jesus and bring our thoughts and so our lives to be holy!
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you (Php 4:8–9).
