When an expert in the law asked Jesus what needed to be done to inherit eternal life, Jesus in turn asked the expert two questions: What is written in the Law (God’s word), and how do you read it (Luke 10:25-26)? Jesus did what He usually did when asked a question – He calls people to a consideration of their heart towards God and other people. The Parable of the Good Samaritan ((Luke 10:25-37) teaches us more than just to be caring/compassionate neighbors it teaches us the necessity of having a heart for God and others if we are going to glorify Him with our lives. God’s word to His people has always been a call for them to examine the Scripture, their actions, and perhaps, most importantly their hearts toward God and other people.
