Jesus tells a parable of a man who describe what he will do with his good crops with I, I, I, I, I’ll, myself. Jesus is not warning against good crops but against focusing on ourselves instead of God and others. Luke 12, Luke 9:57, John 12:26

Legion was what a mob of demons called themselves while they dwelled in a man whose name is not given. The man spent his time wandering around in a cemetry crying and cutting himself with stones, perhaps attempting to overcome the horror of the demons with self inflicted pain. Then Jesus unchained his soul from his demons just as He unchains our souls from the sins Satan tries to hold us with.

Discipleship is one of the functions of a Christian along with worship, fellowship, mission, and generosity. Christians are disciples of Christ in the model of first century Jew. Chosen disciples would yoke to a Rabbi with authority (S’mikhah) and follow closely enough to learn their interpretations on the Law (binding and losing) and think, act, discern like them and emulate them. We are disciples of the Rabbi with all authority under heaven and earth, Jesus Christ.

While coming face to face with the context of the Ancient parable we point fingers only to say, “This is what they were doing wrong!” But we must apply these scriptures to our own lives so that we can sync up with Christ. But if we do that the implications can be troubling.

Jesus is continuing the concept of being ready,  the parable of the talents is more concerned with the idea of taking advantage of each opportunity that we are given and making the most of the time each of us is given here on Earth. God created us with unique abilities and the opportunity to us them or not use them.

    Matthew 25:14-30, Luke 19:11-27, Galatians 6:10

The traditional interpretation of the parable of the Parable of the Hidden Treasure describes the value of the kingdom of heaven (treasure) and the process by which one acquires that kingdom (sell everything). But there is more to this short parable, when placed in context and in light of all teachings of Jesus the interpretation gets turned on its head. Jesus sold everything and bought us (the treasure).
