Who we are: You’ve found a place that cares about you; you’re always welcome at the church of Christ in Merkel. We are a Christ centered family focusing on glorifying God in our lives, fellowship, and worship. If you’re just beginning the search or you’ve been a Christian for many years, you’ll love visiting with us.

The church of Christ is  non-denominational and has no central headquarters or president. The head of the church is Jesus Christ himself (Ephesians 1:22-23).  Each congregation of the church of Christ is autonomous  but we use the Word of God (the Bible) to unite the church into One Faith (Ephesians 4:3-6). We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and his holy Apostles, and not the teachings of man.

What to expect: The patterns of worship the first Christians used were recorded immediately following the account of their conversion in Acts 2:42:

They [Christians] devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (NIV)

The worship services in the church of Christ today are patterned after the Biblical instructions on and examples of worship.  The Biblical pattern of worship includes:

  1. Singing  (Ephesians 5:19)
  2. Praying (1 John 5:14, 1 Peter 3:12, I Timothy 2:5, Ephesians 5:20)
  3. Studying (Acts 17:11-12)
  4. The Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:25,  1 Corinthians 10:16)
  5. Giving (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)
