    What’s In It For Me?

    Posted in: Articles

Have you ever had the thought slip into your head “What’s in it for me?” concerning your Christian walk? If you have, I can tell you that it’s the Devil who put it there. But do you know what; you are not the first person ever to have that thought! Way back when Jesus was still walking on this earth His followers asked Him the same question. In Matthew 19:27 we read: “Then Peter said to Him, “We’ve given up everything to follow You. What will we get out of it?” In other words, “What’s in it for me?”

Now our goal is not to do that! What we are striving for is to have greater faith everyday, but we for the most part are kind of like the man, who just before Jesus healed his son, said, “I do believe, but help me not to doubt!” (Matthew 9:24).

I don’t believe that it is unreasonable to wonder what the reward will be for those who remain faithful, I think it is human nature to do so. If it weren’t the records of others asking the question wouldn’t have been included in the scriptures. Also, there wouldn’t have been so many mentions of just what some of those rewards will be.

Paul writing in Ephesians 1:3-14 says that: we have been adopted, forgiven, we have a heritage; we have received the seal of the Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance as God’s possession.

The Apostle Paul quoting Isaiah in I Corinthians 2:9 also says, “it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

The bottom line is that good things await those who are faithful to Christ! That doesn’t mean that we never have a doubt in our minds. What it means is that we know where the solid foundation is and if we begin to slip, we try out best to get back on the solid footing of faith in our God and Savior.

What’s in it for me? Lots! Spending time praising God, being with the Saints who have gone on before and basking in the Glory of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, living forever, what else could you want? - Russ Lawson

God bless you all and have a great week,

    Michael
