You all helped make the “Back to School VBS” a great success.  I know you give so much of yourselves, not for recognition, but because of your love for the children and for God.

Youth, you were awesome!  Your dramas, puppets, & songs really got the younger kids excited about being the ‘right kind of friend’.  Please continue to be enthusiastic about spreading God’s word as you grow into adults.

Adults, you make the Merkel church family a wonderful place to work and worship.  I hope you know how much you are appreciated.  I believe you make God smile.  It was a great ‘long’ day!

Back Into The Groove

August 27, 2009

42-15725302Well summer is officially over and school is back in session. Swimming pools empty, city parks vacant, campus parking lots filled, hallways busy, cafeteria food served, homework given, new principals adjusting, coaches coaching, athlete’s working out, teachers teaching, students studying, band playing, cheerleaders cheering, these are some of the things going on in just about every town in our country. People are getting back into the groove of things that go on for the majority of the year. Some are excited about it, others not so thrilled, regardless of how you feel about getting back into the groove, we have to.

There are things in life that we look forward to and some things we strongly dislike to do. I hope that we don’t get consumed with disliking things. It is easy for us all to do what we love to do, life would be so great. But those things we dislike do wonders for lots of things. I know I feel better after I labored over something that I dislike to do and then when it’s finished I am glad that I had that experience.

The Bible always gives helpful advice when we face life with not wanting to do some things. Listen to the words of God to ad us in dealing with life. Col. 1:28-29 “We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me.”

Allow God to work in you and He will give you ways of dealing with not wanting to do certain things. Whether you are back in school or teaching, ask God to help get you back into the groove and HE WILL!!!!!!

Have a great week,

Michael

Prayer

August 13, 2009

prayer 3      I heard recently about a mother and her five-year-old son who were headed to McDonald’s one day when they passed a car accident. Usually when they would see something terrible like that, they would say a prayer for those who might be hurt, so the mother pointed to the cars and said to her son, “We should pray.”

From the back seat, she heard his earnest request, “Please, God, don’t let those cars block the entrance to McDonald’s.”

The honesty of children!  But how often have we all been childishly guilty of the same thing?  We are surrounded by the needs of so many people, but we often seem to be blind to them in our prayers.  Instead, our prayers tend to go something along the line of, “God, please give me what is most important to ME right now.  Take away all the inconveniences that make life so difficult for me, and make sure that only good things happen to me.”

When will we learn that prayer was never intended to be the divine equivalent of a vending machine?  Prayer is not an attempt to twist God’s arm until he bends Himself to our will, but an opportunity for us to seek His will.  We are to share our needs with God, but prayer is also a privilege God has given His children to be able to intercede for others and their needs.

I Timothy 2:1 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.”

Who are you praying for today? - TFTD

God bless you all and have a great week,

Michael
