What Are We Waiting on . . . ?

We wait on many things in this life: Dr Suess says, “a bus to come, a plane to go, the mail to come,”or in West Texas some rain to rain or some snow to snow.

Some of us maybe waiting on the opportunity to do something so great for God, that He would come to love us.

We may be waiting to come upon some level of knowledge, goodness/moral excellence, or self-discipline (these are good things to develop, by faith 2 Peter 1:5-7), so that God could be justified in loving us.

However, you cannot accomplish enough of these things, on our own, so that God, who is holy, would be justified in loving you! God already did in giving His Son, what justifies His love for us – Romans 3:25.

What We Are Not Waiting On . . .

We are not waiting on God, but rather, God is waiting on us – 2 Peter 3:9.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

What we are not waiting on is for God to love us or to want us (1 Timothy 2:3b–4; Romans 5:6–8).

I am always telling us that God cannot love us more than He does. What I mean by that is God has already shown us His love by what He has done for us in sending Jesus Christ His only Begotten (1 John 3:16; 4:9, 10).

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that is He is God come down in human flesh (John 1:1, 14), and in doing so, He has given us the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will but born of God (John 1:12).

We all have things we would like to have or to have happen. However, what God is offering us in His word of truth is not things we’d like but the thing we really need, eternal life (Romans 6:23; Colosians 3:4)!

The Thing We Are Patiently Waiting Onthe redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23–25)

23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
