To believe God is to believe God’s word. We cannot separate belief in God from His word (Rom 10:17; Matt 4:4). Belief in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God is a result of hearing the message of the inspired apostles and prophets (John 17:20; 2 Pet 1:19-21). Apart from God we have no faith or hope that saves (1 Pet 1:21)!
The Psalmist in 119:9-16 gives us some insight as to the power of God’s word in a person’s life to guide them, save them from sin, and connect them in a practical way to their God. Indeed, what a treasure it is!
Beth Psa. 119:9-16
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, O Lord;
teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
