If we pervert the commands of God by making them about us, our achievements, then we miss their redemptive value.

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (NIV).

1 John 5:3 – This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

Matthew 7:13–14 –  “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is  the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

If we pervert the forgiveness of God into a license for immorality, then we miss its redemptive value.

Jude 4  – For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a  license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord (NIV).

If we pervert the love of God for us in Christ, by not believing it or by making it something we deserve or inherently have, then we miss the redemptive value of it!

1 John 3:1 – How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

1 John 3:16 – this is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

1 John 4:10-11 – This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
