The Kingdom: Ordinary People Given an Extraordinary Message

Listening carefully (Luke 8:18), we heard Luke give Theophilus evidence that the kingdom begins with God using people, who are seemingly unimportant, an aged priest, a barren wife, a young virgin, a man waiting to die, and an elderly widow! However, they were not merely unimportant people. They were real people, who were upright, humble, faithful, and obedient. They were looking for, praying about, and submitting themselves to God’s kingdom and His salvation (Luke 1–2). Listening carefully, in addition to these five people, we find the Holy Spirit mentioning another group of people, some ordinary shepherds. They were ordinary people, who were given an extraordinary message (Luke 2:8-20).
