Forgiveness is one of the most prevalent concepts in all of scripture but also one of the most misunderstood! Some think that forgiveness is the wicked getting away with something they should not have. This philosophy would mean God must have missed something or someone has been taken advantage of Him, impossible! Some seem persuaded they can purchase, deserve, or barter forgiveness by their deeds, effort, or money. All of these mindsets leave a sinner woefully guilty of their sins!
Thankfully, the Bible gives us another view of forgiveness altogether, the truth! The truth about forgiveness may be best seen in scripture when it is recorded and demonstrated for us, by those who received God’s forgiveness. David (Psalms 32:1-2), a sinful woman (Luke 7:39-47), three thousand souls who were baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, devoting themselves to the apostle’s doctrine, gladly eating together, taking care of one another, and growing in number daily (Acts 2:41-47).
